BEIJING, June 23 (Xinhua) -- The death toll of China's major earthquake
reported no increase from Saturday's figure, freezing at 69,181 as of Monday
noon, the State Council Information Office said.
The number of the injured also remained unchanged from Sunday's 374,171 and
people reported missing dropped from Sunday's figure by 24 to 18,498 after the
8.0-magnitude quake jolted southwestern Sichuan Province and neighboring regions
on May 12.
As of Monday noon, 96,140 injured people had been hospitalized and 82,325
have recovered and been discharged. There are still 11,179 people remaining in
hospital, the office said.
By Sunday, about 1.47 million quake survivors had been rescued and
evacuated.
The government disaster relief fund had reached 54.31 billion yuan (about
7.76 billion U.S. dollars), including 49.60 billion yuan from the central
government and 4.71 billion yuan from the local.
As of Monday noon, domestic and foreign donations had reached 52.48 billion
yuan in cash and goods, of which 17.91 billion yuan had been forwarded to the
quake-hit areas.
As of Monday noon, about 1.58 million tents, 4.87 million quilts, 14.1
million garments and 1.34 million tons of fuel oil and 2.87 million tons of coal
had been sent to the quake-hit areas, the office said.
It said as of Sunday, relief workers had built 298,000 temporary houses and
another 33,300 were being installed, while the materials for 67,100 of such
shelters had arrived in the affected areas.
In the 24 hours that ended at noon on Monday, 147 aftershocks were
monitored in the quake zone. Two measured between 4.0-4.9 on the Richter scale,
and all the others were less intense, the administration said. A total of 13,685
aftershocks had been detected since May 12.
Of the 8,426 water plants damaged during the quake, 6,589 had been repaired
by Monday noon and 27 out of the total 34 quake lakes in Sichuan have been
cleared of dangers, according to the office.
A total of 53,295 km of roads were damaged in the quake and 52,249 km have
been restored, the office said.
