Liu Zhenwu, deputy chief of general staff of the PLA, met with Gen. Frolov,
the visiting director of the Air Defense Force Bureau Chiefs of the Russian
Armed Forces and his party in Beijing on June 16.
Liu Zhenwu said that along with the consolidation and deepening of
China-Russia strategic coordination partnership, the friendly cooperation
between the Chinese and Russian armed forces has constantly expanded and
achieved satisfactory results. The close cooperation between the Chinese and
Russian armed forces is not only in the fundamental interests of the two
countries, but also conducive to peace and stability in the region and the world
at large. Liu Zhenwu also said that the Chinese side appreciates the
humanitarian material assistance provided by the Russian Armed Forces to the
people in quake-stricken areas in Sichuan.
Gen. Frolov said that he is glad to have the opportunity to exchange ideas
with his Chinese colleagues in the air defense field. In modern war, highly
efficient and reliable air defense is an important guarantee for the survival of
troops. He expressed the hope that the two sides would learn from each others
and draw on each other's experience so as to uplift their own national defense
capability.
Jia Xiaoning, deputy director general of the Foreign Affairs Office of the
Ministry of National Defense, Yang Xuming, deputy director of the Military
Training and Arms Department of the General Staff Headquarters of the PLA,
Lipilin Alexey, and Russian air and naval attaché to China, were present during
the meeting.
