First group of third batch of Chinese peacekeepers to Sudan returns home

  On the afternoon of June 12, 142 officers and men of the first group of the third batch of Chinese peacekeeping force to Wau, Sudan returned to China, and some 200 officers and men from the Jinan Military Area Command headquarters, a group army and a joint logistics sub-department went to the airport to welcome the Chinese peacekeepers.

  Since the third batch of the Chinese peacekeeping force arrived in Sudan in September 2007, its officers and men have all along kept its peacekeeping mission in mind and overcome various difficulties to successfully fulfill various peacekeeping support tasks assigned by the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Sudan and its Second War Theater, including construction of barracks and roads, maintenance of airports, medical aid, and material transport, winning wide praise from all quarters.

  According to sources, all 435 officers and men of the third batch of Chinese peacekeeping force to Wau, Sudan were awarded "United Nations Honorary Medal of Peace", and 45 of them won the "Special Contribution Award" granted by the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Sudan.
