Xu Caihou, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and vice chairman of the Central Military Commission, met with the PLA delegates attending the 16th National Congress of the Communist Youth League of China (CYLC), offered them cordial congratulations on behalf of Chairman Hu Jintao and other leaders of the Central Military Commission, and conveyed sincere greetings to all the league members in the PLA and the Armed Police Force through them. He placed emphasis on calling on all league members of the PLA to keep their mission in mind, live up to the great trust and strive to be high quality young servicemen free from shame of being in the new era by acting in accordance with Chairman Hu Jintao's important instructions and requirements of growing into a new generation that would shoulder the tasks of the times and make great contributions to the cause of the Party and people, and "being diligent in learning, good at creation and willing to contribute".

　　Li Jinai, member of the Central Military Commission and director of the General Political Department of the PLA, was also present at the meeting.

　　Xu Caihou pointed out that the 16th CYLC National Congress was held at the moment when the entire Party, the PLA and all the Chinese people united as one in the hard battle of quake rescue and relief and poised for greeting the Beijing Olympic Games with ardent enthusiasm, and therefore it would be marked as a great event in the political life of all the league members and young officers and men of the PLA. All the delegates attending the 16th CYLC National Congress are the outstanding representatives of the 1.45 million league members in the PLA. He wished that they would take the lead in studying and carrying out the essence of the congress and demonstrate the fine quality and bearing of the young servicemen.
