Li Jinai, member of the Central Military Commission and director of the General Political Department of the PLA, devoted the five-day span from June 5 to 9 to visit and express solicitude to the troops doing quake rescue and relief work and the local quake-hit people in such quake-struck areas as Qingchuan, Jiangyou, Anxian, Shifang, Mianzhu and Hangwang Town one after the other, where he inspected and gave guidance to the on-going political work among the quake rescue and relief troops. Presiding over the meeting on the political work of the quake rescue and relief troops, Li Jinai pointed out that the meeting was held at a time when substantial phasic successes had been achieved in the quake rescue and relief operation while the follow-up tasks remained to be arduous and heavy, and was de facto a potent mobilization and overall arrangement for the sake of putting into effect the gist of President Hu Jintao's important directive, hence playing a vital role in guiding the effort in doing a better job rounding off the quake rescue and relief work.

At the meeting on the political work of quake relief troops, leaders from the Joint Earthquake Relief Headquarters of the Chengdu Military Area Command and the various earthquake relief responsibility areas, the Lanzhou Military Area Command, the Armed Police Force, the air force of the Chengdu Military Area Command, the Sichuan Provincial Military Command and the Armed Police Sichuan Contingent took the floor respectively. The meeting made an in-depth analysis of the current disaster relief, summed up and exchanged the lively experience of political work in the quake rescue and relief, and discussed about the specific measures to further strengthen the political work among the quake rescue and relief troops in close combination with the present duties and the actual ideological situation of the officers and men. It has successfully solved some actual problems that demanded prompt solutions.
