english.chinamil.com.cn 2008-06-05

On May 16, the graduation ceremony for the minesweeping training course of China's humanistic assistance to Sudan was held as scheduled, which indicated that 20 cadets from Sudan wrapped up the 1.5-month minesweeping training. During the training in China, these Sudanese cadets systematically studied the basic courses such as the basic theories on explosion and the principles of mine detection and minesweeping, grasped how to operate various mine detectors and the ways of demolishing mines and other unexploded ammunition, learnt the ways and standards for international minesweeping operations, fostered their capacities of making minesweeping plans and organizing minesweeping operations, and conducted comprehensive drills. As a result, the expected training goals have been reached.

During their study in China, a profound friendship has been fostered between the cadets from the north and the south parts of Sudan, and between the Sudanese cadets and the Chinese teachers. The cadets spoke highly of the gratis minesweeping assistance from the Chinese Government. Major John Mabire Arock Mabire, designated leader of the cadets, gave a speech at the graduation ceremony. He said, "We are very thankful to the minesweeping training course held by the Chinese Government. Though the course is short, we have a profound understanding and grasp of the how-to taught by the Chinese teachers. And we will apply it to sweeping all the mines and other unexploded ammunition in Sudan, so as to enable us to make full use of the land in Sudan and boost the development of Sudan. We earnestly hope to keep and deepen the friendship between China and Sudan, and hope the Chinese Government will hold more similar training courses in the coming years so that more Sudanese can make further study in China.
