Guo Boxiong urges to implement Chairman Hu Jintao's directive

english.chinamil.com.cn 2008-05-21

Guo Boxiong, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and vice chairman of the Central Military Commission, held several meetings in the earthquake relief frontline attended by leading cadres of various relief troops. Guo Boxiong stressed at the meetings that all the troops must earnestly implement Chairman Hu Jintao's important directive, solve practical problems, get things truly done, and accomplish the task of extending rescue efforts to villages according to the highest standard.

For villages located in inaccessible mountainous areas, airdropping operations must continue to be carried out to deliver urgently needed materials to disaster victims. Some field kitchen trailers should be provided for those temporary settlements where disaster victims are relatively concentrated, and operational training for using these field kitchen trailers should be provided to civilians so that the disaster victims can have hot meals.

It is imperative to set up temporary settlements for disaster victims in the vicinity of military barracks that are lying idle.

The troops should take the initiative to approach local governments to voluntarily undertake some major disaster relief tasks so as to make contributions to post-disaster reconstruction.

The troops should be prepared to stay longer in disaster-hit areas to carry out relief operations, and concrete and effective measures should be taken to ensure relief troops to have adequate meals, drinking water, medical service, epidemic prevention, accommodation, POL supplies and funds so as to maintain battle effectiveness of the troops.

For days, Guo Boxiong has been dashing around in quake-relief frontline. On May 19, he went by helicopter to the worst quake-hit areas in four townships and five natural villages in Wenchuan and Mao Counties to inspect the troops' rescue and relief operations in villages.
