China's top legislature starts plenary meeting for elections

The fifth plenary meeting of the First Session of the 11th National People's Congress (NPC) is held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, capital of China, March 15, 2008. The NPC session will vote on Saturday to elect chairman, vice-chairpersons, secretary-general and members of the NPC Standing Committee, president and vice-president of the People's Republic of China (PRC) and chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC) of the PRC.

  BEIJING, March 15 (Xinhua) -- China's top legislature started a plenary meeting here on Saturday morning to elect the country's new leadership.

  To be elected are chairman, vice-chairpersons, secretary-general and members of the Standing Committee of the 11th National People's Congress, president and vice-president of the People's Republic of China (PRC), and chairman of the Central Military Commission of the PRC.
