WARSAW, March 6 (Xinhua) -- A new round of talks on the possible placing of
elements of a U.S. anti-missile shield in Poland was held here on Thursday,
according to Polish news agency PAP
Polish Deputy Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski declined to give any
details of the talks.
The U.S. side has been represented in the talks by U.S. State Department
senior negotiator John Rood.
Defense Minister Bogdan Klich in Cracow on Thursday declined to speculate
on whether the negotiations will be finalized before the end of U.S. President
George W. Bush's term in office.
He stressed that his talks with U.S. Democratic Party politicians allow to
assume that if that party wins the presidential elections the shield project
will be continued and added that this was one of the reasons why the Polish side
does not see the need for any rush.
The United States is planning to deploy 10 missile interceptors in Poland
and a radar system in the Czech Republic as part of its European missile shield.
Russia has objected the plan, saying it will threat Russian national
security.
