BEIJING, March 5 (Xinhua) -- China will explore to integrate functions of
small departments to found larger ones in the State Council reform, said Premier
Wen Jiabao here Wednesday.
The plan is to avoid "overlapping responsibilities" and "powers not being

China plans multibillion yuan budget for low-rent housing program
BEIJING, March 5 (Xinhua) -- China plans to allocate 6.8-billion-yuan (951
million U.S. dollars) in its 2008 budget to build low-rent houses for urban
poor, Premier Wen Jiabao said here Wednesday.
The amount is 1.7 billion yuan (238 million U.S. dollars), or 33 percent,
more than last year, Wen said in his report to the First Session of the 11th
National People's Congress that opened at the Great Hall of the People in

Premier ensures employees in China to have paid vacations

Chinese Premier pledges hefty investment schemes under tight
monetary policy
BEIJING, March 5 (Xinhua) -- China is to follow a tight monetary policy to
address the still-unsolved problem of excessive liquidity, and in the meantime,
the government also pledges to add another several hundred billion yuan in
additional funds to boost agriculture, education, medicare and strengthen the

surging inflation rates, especially soaring food prices, and maintain social
stability, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao told governments at all levels here

Premier: China to keep year's CPI rise around 4.8%

year's CPI at around 4.8 percent, given the inflationary pressure and strong

Premier says China's state sector robust
BEIJING, March 5 (Xinhua) - Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao voiced satisfaction
over the vitality of the state sector, saying its impact and influence on the
national economy are "greatly enhanced" over the past five years.
The total value of assets of state owned enterprises (SOEs) in 2006 grew by
60.98 percent compared to 2002, their total profits increased by 223 percent and
their tax contributions grew by 105 percent, Wen said in his report to the First

Premier: China reports drops in energy consumption, pollution in
2007
BEIJING, March 5 (Xinhua) - China reported reductions in energy consumption
as well as chemical oxygen demand (COD) and total sulfur dioxide emission last
year, Premier Wen Jiabao said at the annual parliament session on Wednesday.
In 2007, China saw a 3.27 percent year-on-year drop in energy consumption
for each unit of GDP, Wen said in his report to the First Session of the 11th

Wen says China's economy grew by 65.5% in five years
BEIJING, March 5 (Xinhua) - China's economy grew by 65.5 percent over the
past five years, or an average annual increase of 10.6 percent, to become the
world's fourth largest economy, Premier Wen Jiabao said at the annual parliament
session on Wednesday.
He said the country's gross domestic product reached 24.66 trillion yuan
(about 3.425 trillion U.S. dollars) last year, while total government revenue
reached 5.13 trillion yuan (712 billion dollars), a 171 percent rise in five
