An army-government Spring Festival party was held in Beijing yesterday
afternoon. Liu Qi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee
and secretary of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, and Li Jinai, member of
the Central Military Commission and director of the General Political Department
of the PLA, attended and addressed the party.
Liu Qi first extended the Lunar New Year's greetings to all the military
leaders attending the party and all the officers and men of the troops stationed
in Beijing on behalf of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, the Beijing
Municipal People's Congress, the Beijing Municipal Government, the Chinese
People's Political Consultative Conference Beijing Municipal Committee and all
Beijing citizens. He said that Beijing would give full play to the role of the
PLA and the Armed Police Force troops stationed in Beijing in capital building.
In the meantime, Beijing's Party committees and governments at all levels should
continue to faithfully balance efforts to strengthen economic development and
national defense and carry out the "Double-Support" (support the army and give
preferential treatment to families of revolutionary armymen and martyrs, and
support the government and cherish the people) activities in an extensive and
deep-going way, and try every possible means to solve problems for the PLA and
the Armed Police Force troops.
Li Jinai expressed sincere gratitude to Beijing's Party committees and
governments at all levels and the general public for their concern and support
for national defense and the army building on behalf of the leaders of the PLA
four general headquarters/departments and the major units stationed in Beijing.
He said that 2008 is the first year for thorough implementation of the essence
and strategic arrangements of the 17th National Congress of the CPC and also the
year for Beijing to host the Olympic Games, the whole PLA and the Armed Police
Force, especially the troops stationed in Beijing, should go all out to do their
work well and make their due contributions to hosting a distinctive and
high-level Olympic Games.
Deputy Minister for Civil Affairs Luo Pingfei gave a speech at the party,
and relevant leaders from the PLA four general headquarters/departments and
major military organizations stationed in Beijing as well as related Beijing
municipal leaders attended the party.
