The PLA Daily today carries an editorial titled Composing a More Brilliant New Chapter on the front page to congratulate the successful opening of the 17th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

　　The editorial reads that the 17th National Congress of the CPC is an extremely important conference held at the key stage of reform and development in China. The congress will hold high the great banner of socialism with Chinese characteristics, be guided by Deng Xiaoping Theory and the important thought of the "Three Represents", deepen the implementation of the scientific outlook on development, earnestly sum up the precious experience of the Party in leading the people of all nationalities of China to build socialism with Chinese characteristics since the reform and opening up, map out the blueprints for the development of the Party and the country, and scientifically lay down the guidelines and the fundamental policy that meet the demand of the era and the wish of the people. Therefore, the congress is of great significance for the Party to assume the lofty missions endowed by the era to lead the people to keep on the all-round construction of a moderately prosperous society, speed up the socialist modernization, strive for broadening the prospect of development of the socialist cause with Chinese characteristics, and realize the great cause of rejuvenating the Chinese nation.

　　The editorial highlights that the brilliant achievements gained in the reform and opening up and in the socialist modernization construction of China result from the correct leadership of the Party, the constant promotion of innovation of theory, and the unswerving adherence to the road of socialism with Chinese characteristics. Actual practices have proved that the socialism with Chinese characteristics is a banner of development and progress of modern China as well as the solidarity and struggle of the entire Party and the people of all nationalities of China, and the road of the socialism with Chinese characteristics is the only correct road to make the goals of a prosperous and strong China and a happy, well and safe life for the people come true.

　　The editorial concludes by stating that the Chinese army is a people's army under the absolute leadership of the Party, thus the banner of the Party stands for that of the army and the will of the Party stands for that of the army. All the officers and men of the PLA are elated by the successful opening of the 17th National Congress of the CPC, full of confidence of a magnificent future of the Party and the country, and determined to faithfully implement the historical mission of the army in the new century and the new period with greater fervor and more inspired fighting spirit.
