Liang Guanglie, member of the Central Military Commission and chief of
general staff of the PLA, met with Gen. Luiz Edmundo Maia de Carvalho, the
visiting chief of staff of the Brazilian Army, and the delegation led by him, in
Beijing yesterday morning.
Liang Guanglie welcomed Carvalho and his delegation to China. Speaking of
the relations between the two militaries, Liang pointed out that the
relationship between the two militaries is an important part of the relations
between the two countries, and strengthening exchanges and cooperation between
the two militaries can help enhance mutual trust and promote further development
of the ties between the two countries. The Chinese side is ready to work
together with the Brazilian side to further expand the fields of exchange and
cooperation between the two militaries and make positive contributions to
deepening the strategic partnership between the two countries.
Liang Guanglie also reaffirmed China's principled stand on the Taiwan issue
to his guests and exchanged views of common interests with Carvalho.
Carvalho said that the Brazilian Armed Forces is willing to continue to
make efforts to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation with the Chinese
armed forces on the basis of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit. He
stressed that Brazil has always stuck to the one-China policy.
