To mark the 100th anniversary of the birthday of Su Yu, a
long-tested Communist fighter, outstanding leader of the Party and the armed
forces, proletariat revolutionary and prominent strategist, a forum to this end
was held in the Great Hall of the People yesterday in Beijing. Guo Boxing,
member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPC and vice
chairman of the Central Military Commission, attended and addressed the forum.
Xu Caihou, member of the Secretariat of the Central
Committee of the CPC and vice chairman of the Central Military Commission,
presided over the forum. Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National
People's Congress Sheng Huaren, veterans like Zhang Wannian and Chi Haotian, and
Members of the Central Military Commission Liang Guanglie, Li Jinai, Qiao
Qingchen and Jing Zhiyuan attended the forum.
Guo Boxiong noted that Comrade Su Yu served in the army his whole life,
fought numerous battles, performed monumental exploits for the cause of the
Chinese people's liberation and made extraordinary contributions for the
national defense and the modernization of the armed forces.
While presiding over the forum, Xu Caihou stated that the commemoration of
Comrade Su Yu aims at learning the lofty revolutionary spirit and superb
military arts of the proletariat revolutionaries and strategists, vigorously
carrying forward the fine traditions of obeying the command of the Party,
serving the people and being brave and skilful in battle, effectively performing
the historical mission of the PLA in the new century and the new period, and
constantly boosting the great cause of building socialism with Chinese
characteristics.
