Xu Caihou, vice chairman of the Central Military Commission, met with Lt.
Gen. Hector Hugo Camacho Pauta, commander of the Joint Command of the Ecuadorian
Armed Forces, and the visiting party led by him yesterday in Beijing.
Xu Caihou said that Ecuador is an important country in Latin America and
the Chinese government has always attached importance to developing friendly
ties with Ecuador. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China
and Ecuador, thanks to the concerted efforts of the two sides, the friendly
cooperative ties between the two countries have been developing steadily in
various fields, as evidenced by constant enhancement of political mutual-trust
and the remarkable achievements in economic cooperation. The relations between
the two militaries have also maintained good momentum of development, featuring
frequent exchange of high-level visits and constant expanding of fields of
exchange and cooperation. China is willing to work together with the Ecuadorian
side to further expand the fields of exchange and cooperation and push for
in-depth development of the friendly cooperative ties between the two
militaries.
Xu Caihou also briefed his guests on China's domestic development and
China's principled stand on the Taiwan issue.
Camacho expressed great admiration for China's rapid development. He said
that Ecuador appreciated the support China has given to Ecuador in the past
years and Ecuador hoped to further develop the friendly cooperative ties with
China and its military. He reiterated that Ecuador would continue to stick to
the one-China policy.
Sun Jianguo, assistant chief of general staff of the PLA, was present
during the meeting.
