A forum on the publication of the Biographies of the PLA Senior
Generals was held yesterday in Beijing. Guo Boxing, member of the Political
Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPC and vice chairman of the Central
Military Commission, Cao Gangchuan, member of the Political Bureau of the
Central Committee of the CPC, vice chairman of the Central Military Commission,
state councilor and defense minister, and Xu Caihou, member of the Secretariat
of the Central Committee of the CPC and vice chairman of the Central Military
Commission, attended the forum.
Veteran figures such as Zhang Wannian, Chi Haotian, Bo He and members of
the Central Military Commission Liang Guanglie, Li Jinai, Liao Xilong, Qiao
Qingchen and Jing Zhiyuan attended the forum.
With the approval of the Central Military Commission, the Biographies
of the PLA Senior Generals is compiled by the Party History Research Center
of the Central Committee of the CPC and the General Political Department of the
PLA. It is the first voluminous biographical series giving a full account of the
life and achievements of the old generation of military strategists and senior
generals of the people's army in the histories of the CPC and the PLA. This
magnum opus (in series), which costs more than 1,000 people over a decade of
hard work, presents a systematic account on the history of an old generation of
military strategists and senior generals in making revolution, fighting for and
building a new China. It is both a vivid record of their life long revolutionary
practice and a miniature of the history of the PLA.
It's said that the series is projected to come off the press in 40 volumes
incorporating the biographies of 375 military strategists and senior generals,
of which 12 volumes of 90 biographies will be published in this first batch and
the remainders will come out in 2008 and 2009.
