Liang Guanglie, member of the Central Military Commission and chief of
general staff of the PLA, held talks with Wilfredo Vargas, the visiting
commander-in-chief of the Bolivian Armed Forces, yesterday afternoon in Beijing.
Liang Guanglie began by extending welcome to Wilfredo Vargas's visit to
China. He then went on to say that since China and Bolivia established
diplomatic relations in 1985, the development of the bilateral ties has been
proceeding with smooth progress and their political mutual-trust has been
constantly enhancing. As one of the essential compositions making up the
bilateral ties between the two countries, the relations between the armed forces
of the two countries have likewise witnessed smooth development in recent years.
The high-ranking mutual visits are frequent and the exchanges and cooperation in
all fields have been continuously deepening and stepping up. China cherishes the
wish to work together with Bolivia to boost the relations between the two
militaries to a wider and deeper level. Among other matters, Liang Guanglie
expressed appreciation for Bolivian government's consistent principle stand of
sticking to the one-China policy.
In turn, Wilfredo Vargas stated that Bolivia is willing to join hands with
China for furthering the friendly exchanges and cooperation between the two
countries as well as between the two armed forces. Wilfredo Vargas then
reiterated that the Bolivian government would as always adhere to the one-China
policy.
Liang Guanglie held a welcome ceremony for Wilfredo Vargas before
proceeding to the talks. It was on April 21 that Wlifredo Vargas and his party
arrived in Beijing to start an official goodwill visit.
