BEIJING, April 28 (Xinhua) -- China and Surinam agreed to step up military
cooperation during the talks between the defense ministers of the two countries
here on Monday.
"China values its ties with Surinam as well as that between the two
militaries," said Chinese Defense Minister Liang Guanglie.
Liang, who is also state councilor, applauded the recent growth in
relations between the two nations, saying that China will explore with Surinam
new fields and new approaches to step up the ties between the armed forces.
Visiting Surinamese defense minister Ivan Fernald said the cooperation
between Surinam and China bears strategic significance and Surinam will join
with China to continue to expand the friendly cooperation between the two armies
in fields such as military personnel training.
Fernald also reiterated that his country will continue to adhere to the
one-China policy.
