BEIJING, April 23 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Defense Minister Liang Guanglie met
here Monday with Peter Gajdos, deputy chief of the general staff of the Slovak
armed forces, pledging to enhance cooperation between the two nations' armed
forces.
Liang, who is also a state councilor, said the two countries and two
peoples enjoyed profound traditional friendship. Both sides had maintained
frequent exchanges between senior leaders and strengthened political trust in
recent years.
The two armed forces had maintained close contacts and cooperation, Liang
said. Friendly military ties helped to step up all-round relations between the
two countries.
The Chinese armed forces were ready to cooperate with Slovakia to promote
the healthy, long-lasting and stable development of bilateral military ties, he
said.
Gajdos said the two militaries enjoyed a sound and solid foundation for
cooperation. They conducted broad exchanges and cooperation in training, medical
treatment and public health. He hoped the two forces' ties could be further
strengthened.
Gajdos reiterated his country's firm adherence to the one-China policy.
Before the meeting, Ma Xiaotian, deputy chief of the General Staff of the
Chinese People's Liberation Army, held talks with Gajdos, conferring on
bilateral military cooperation and other issues of common concern.
