Liang Guanglie holds talks with Myanmar joint chief of staff

Liang Guanglie, member of the Central Military Commission and chief of general staff of the PLA, held talks with Thura Shwe Mann, member of the Myanmar State Peace and Development Council and joint chief of staff of the Myanmar Armed Forces yesterday morning in Beijing, and the two sides exchanged views on the bilateral ties between the two countries and the two militaries and the other issues of common concern.

Liang Guanglie said that China and Myanmar are amicable neighbors. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, the bilateral ties have been developing smoothly. For years, the Myanmar government has stuck to the one-China policy, to which the Chinese side would like to express its appreciation and thanks. Along with the steady development of the bilateral relations between the two countries, the relations between the two militaries have deepened with each passing day. The Chinese side is willing to work together with the Myanmar side to bring the bilateral ties between the two countries and two militaries to a new high.

Shwe Mann said that Myanmar and China have long respected each other, trusted each other and supported each other. The Myanmar side attaches great importance to developing its ties with the Chinese Armed Forces and hopes to have more cooperation between the two militaries in the future. He also reiterated that Myanmar would, as always, stick to the one-China policy.

Before the talks, Liang Guanglie held a welcome ceremony and accompanied Shwe Mann to review the guard of honor made up of the PLA three services.

Zhang Li, deputy chief of general staff of the PLA, also attended the above-mentioned activities.
