　　Xu Caihou, member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the CPC and vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission pointed out emphatically, while making a study and inspection tour to the troops stationed in Hunan and Anhui Provinces recently, that the army should combine the in-depth study and implementation of the spirit of the Sixth Plenary Session of the 16^th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China closely with the practical work of the troops, make great efforts to boost the building of a revolutionary, modernized and regularized army, get prepared in a down-to-earth way for military struggles, effectively fulfill the army's historical mission in the new century and the new period, and provide strong support to and make positive contributions to the building of a harmonious socialist society.

　　During the study and inspection tour, Xu Caihou was briefed about the work of the troop units he visited successively, inspected the positions and armaments, inspected and inquired about the military training and political work as well as the cultural development in the grass-roots units, held discussions with the leaders of the troop units and cadres from the leading bodies, and visited squads and platoons of various companies, soldier's dining halls and cadre's dormitories to inquire about the living conditions of the officers and men as well as their dependants' state of employment.
