During his study tour in the Lanzhou war theatre, Guo Boxiong, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPC and vice chairman of the Central Military Commission, emphasized that the army should rally closely around the Central Committee of the CPC with Comrade Hu Jintao as the general secretary, hold high the great banners of Deng Xiaoping Theory and the important thought of "Three Represents", carry out in a deep-going way Jiang Zemin's thinking on national defense and army building, firmly build up and earnestly put into practice the scientific outlook on development, aim at effectively fulfilling the historical mission of the army in the new century and the new period, vigorously carry forward the spirit of hard struggle, always maintain the true political quality of the people's army, and work with quiet hard application and selfless devotion to fulfill all the missions entrusted by the Party and the people with high standards.

　　During his study tour, Guo Boxiong came to a base of the General Armaments Department, a base of the Air Force and some troop units of the Lanzhou Military Area Command, where he visited the experts of science and technology and the officers and men of the grassroots units. At a launching test station, Guo Boxiong spoke highly of the officers and men for their decades of devotion to and the great achievements they made in the space flight cause of China, and encouraged them to carry forward the spirit of taking root in the vast desert, quiet dedication and being bold to scale new heights in science so as to bring about new brilliant achievements.
