Liang Guanglie, member of the Central Military Commission and chief of
general staff of the PLA, held talks with Ahmed Gaid Salah, the visiting chief
of staff of the Algerian National People's Army yesterday in Beijing.
Liang noted that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between
China and Algeria in 1958, the friendly cooperative relations between the two
countries have been developing in a stable and sustainable manner. China is
appreciative of the Algerian Government for its adherence to the one China
policy and its support to China on the human rights issues, etc.
Liang said that the Chinese and Algerian armed forces have maintained
long-term friendly cooperative relations. The Chinese People's Liberation Army
attaches importance to its relations with the Algerian National People's Army
and wishes to further develop the cooperation with the Algerian National
People's Army in various fields.
Liang also briefed his guests on China's national defense policy and army
building.
Ahmed Gaid Salah said that in recent years, there has been notable
development of relations between the Algerian National People's Army and the
Chinese People's Liberation Army and the two sides have good cooperation in many
fields. He expressed the hope that through his current visit, the exchanges and
cooperation between the two militaries would be further strengthened.
Before the talks, Liang held a welcome ceremony in honor of his visiting
guest. Ahmed Gaid Salah and his delegation arrived in China on August 14 for an
official visit upon the invitation of Liang Guanglie.
