Liang Guanglie, member of the Central Military Commission and chief of
general staff of the PLA, met with Air Marshal Shiri, commander of the
Zimbabwean Air Force and the delegation led by him in Beijing yesterday.
Liang Guanglie first welcomed Shiri and his delegation to China. Liang said
that the friendship between the Chinese and Zimbabwean people dates back long in
history. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, the relations between
the two countries have developed steadily and the cooperation in various fields
has yielded fruitful results. China is appreciative to Zimbabwe for its
adherence to the one-China policy and its support to China in international
affairs including the human rights issues. Liang Guanglie also noted that the
Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) highly values the relations with the
Zimbabwean Armed Forces, and wish to further develop the cooperation in various
fields and constantly instill fresh vigor and vitality into the relations
between the two militaries.
Shiri expressed his thanks to Liang Guanglie for finding time to meet him
and his delegation. He said that there exists profound friendship between the
Zimbabwean and Chinese governments and their two peoples. Meanwhile the
relations between the two militaries have seen good growth. Zimbabwe is thankful
to China for its long-term support and assistance and hopes to further
strengthen the exchanges and promote mutual understanding and cooperation
between the two militaries in the days to come.
