Guo Boxiong, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission, stressed at the Sixth Conference of Military Scientific Research Work of the Army yesterday that the military scientific research work should stick to the guidance of Deng Xiaoping Theory and the important thought of "Three represents", implement in a deep-going way Jiang Zemin's thinking on national defense and army building, earnestly put in practice Chairman Hu Jintao's series of important instructions, firmly establish and all-roundly carry out the scientific outlook on development, focus on fulfilling the historical mission of the army in the new century and the new period, regard military strategic principle in the new period as the overall guideline and the study of major realistic issues as the priority, vigorously carry forward the scientific spirit of keeping pace with the times, independent innovation and being truth seeking and pragmatic, strive for building a military scientific research system featuring a healthy interaction among theory, decision-making and practice, produce more scientific research results with theoretical and practical values in order to provide strong theoretical support to promoting faster and better development of national defense and army building and winning local wars under information conditions.

　　The main task of the two-day conference is to implement the scientific outlook on development in a deep-going way, sum up and exchange experience and study and arrange the military scientific research work of the army in the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan" period. Leaders concerned from the major units of the army and the Armed Police Force, some military colleges and scientific research institutions attended the conference. President Zheng Shenxia and Political Commissar Liu Yuan of the Academy of Military Sciences of the PLA presided over the conference.

　　The leaders of the four general headquarters/departments of the PLA and the General Office of the CMC Wu Shengli, Liu Yongzhi, Li Maifu, Zhu Fazhong and Jia Ting'an participated in the conference.
