Liang Guanglie, member of the Central Military Commission and chief
of general staff of the PLA, held talks yesterday in Beijing with
Sunglianga Lombe Kisempia, the visiting chief of general staff of the
Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
Liang
Guanglie first extended warm welcome to Kisempia and the delegation led by
him. He said that although China and the DRC were far apart from each
other geographically, there existed profound traditional friendship
between the peoples of the two countries. The Chinese side appreciated the
DRC's firm commitment to developing friendly relations with China, its
firm adherence to the one-China policy and its support to China's national
reunification. Liang also said that the Chinese military attached great
importance to developing the friendly ties with its DRC counterpart, and
he expressed his belief that the friendly cooperation between the two
armed forces would surely develop to a new level with the concerted
efforts of both sides. Liang also briefed his guests on China's diplomatic
and national defense policies and army building, etc.
Kisempia
said that China and the DRC had carried out fruitful cooperation in
various fields in recent years. The peacekeeping operations of the Chinese
peacekeeping force in the DRC had played a great role in maintaining peace
and promoting development in the DRC. The DRC military attached great
importance to strengthening the friendship with the Chinese military, and
was willing to push the friendly cooperation between the two armies to a
new level.
The talks was preceded by a welcome ceremony held by Liang Guanglie
in honor of Kisempia. Xiong Guangkai, deputy chief of general staff of the
PLA, attended the above-mentioned functions.
