Yesterday morning, Liao Xilong, director of the General Logistics
Department of the PLA and member of the Central Military Commission, met
in Beijing with Mohamed Moatasem, the visiting logistics department
director of the Egyptian Armed Forces and the delegation led by
him.
Liao first expressed welcome to Mohamed Moatasem and the
delegation led by him. He then reviewed the traditional friendship between
China and Egypt and between the two peoples as well as the friendly
exchanges between the two militaries. He said that since the establishment
of diplomatic relations between China and Egypt 49 years ago, there had
been frequent exchange of high-level visits between the two sides, and the
exchanges and cooperation in various fields had developed smoothly. With
the steady development of relations between the two countries, the
exchanges between the two militaries had also been very active, including
reciprocal visits in the logistics field. The Chinese military highly
valued its relations with the Egyptian Armed Forces, and was willing to
work together with its Egyptian counterpart to constantly strengthen the
exchange and cooperation between the two militaries in the logistics
field.
Liao also briefed his guests on the current political
situation in China, China's national defense policy in the new period, and
the progress of the logistics reform of the Chinese Armed
Forces.
Mohamed Moatasem expressed his agreement with Liao on his
comments on the relations between the two countries and the two
militaries. He said that although China and Egypt are far from each other
geographically, there existed traditional friendship between the two
peoples. He expressed his hope that his current visit to China would help
promote the exchanges and cooperation between the two militaries in the
logistics field.
Wang Qian, deputy director of the General
Logistics Department of the PLA, was present at the
meeting. Mohamed Moatasem and the Egyptian military logistics
delegation led by him arrived in Beijing on December 3 for an 8-day
official visit to China upon the invitation of the General Logistics
Department of the PLA.
