Liang Guanglie, member of the Central Military Commission and chief
of general staff of the PLA, held talks with the visiting Chief of General
Staff Josip Lucic of the Croatian Armed Forces yesterday in Beijing.
Liang Guanglie said that since the establishment of diplomatic
relations between the two countries over 10 years ago, there had been
frequent reciprocal visits by high-level officials from both countries; at
the same time exchanges and cooperation between the two countries in
various fields had also developed smoothly. It was in the fundamental
interests of the two countries and two peoples to consolidate and deepen
the Sino-Croatian relations. China appreciated Croatian Government's
adherence to the one-China policy. The relations between the two
militaries were an important part of the bilateral ties of the two
countries. The Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) valued the
development of its relations with the Croatian Armed Forces and was
willing to promote the relations between the two militaries to develop at
various levels and in various fields.
Liang Guanglie also briefed
his guests on the revolution in military affairs with Chinese
characteristics, and China's views on the international and regional
situation.
Josip Lucic said that although China and Croatia were
far apart from each other geographically, there existed traditional
friendship between the peoples of the two countries. In recent years, our
two countries had carried out extensive exchanges and cooperation in
political, economic, cultural and other fields. The Croatian Armed Forces
was willing to further its friendly and cooperative ties with its Chinese
counterpart.
Liang Guanglie held a welcoming ceremony for Josip Lucic before the
talks. Zhang Li, deputy chief of general staff of the PLA and Boris Velic
Croatian ambassador to China also attended the talks.
Josip Lucic arrived in Beijing the day before yesterday for a six-day
official goodwill visit to China upon the invitation of Liang Guanglie.
