Liang Guanglie, member of the Central Military Commission and chief
of general staff of the PLA, met in Beijing yesterday with Helder Bernardo
Rocha Martins, the visiting Portuguese Air Force Chief of Staff and the
delegation led by him.
During the meeting, Liang Guanglie first extended warm welcome to
Martins and his delegation, and expressed satisfaction with the current
relations between China and Portugal and between the two armed forces. He
said that the Chinese side attached importance to developing the
Sino-Portuguese relations, and was very pleased to see that a good
momentum had been maintained in the development of relations between the
two armed forces. He further pointed out that frequent reciprocal visits
by high-level military officials and constant expansion of exchanges and
cooperation between the two militaries had effectively deepened the mutual
understanding and promoted the growth of relations between the two
militaries. Such friendly relations were in the fundamental interests of
both countries. He also expressed his willingness to work with his
Portuguese counterparts to promote the multi-level and multi-fields
exchange and cooperation between the two militaries so as to steadily push
forward the existing friendly cooperative relations between the two
militaries.
Martins expressed his agreement with Liang Guanglie
on his comments on the relations between the two countries and two
militaries, saying that developing the relations between Portugal and
China and between their two militaries would contribute to regional
stability and world peace.
