Li Jinai, member of the Central Military Commission and director of the General Political Department of the PLA, met with Kim Wong Han, commander of the defense security command of the armed forces of the Republic of Korea (ROK) yesterday in Beijing.

Li said during the meeting that China and the ROK are close neighbors facing each other across the sea, and the friendly exchanges between the two countries dates back long in history. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1992, there have been frequent exchanges of visits and meetings between the leaders of the two countries, along with daily increase of close contacts between the two sides in political, economic and trade, cultural, scientific and technological fields. In addition, the two sides also have effective co-operation on the international and regional issues. It has been Chinese government's unswerving stand to develop friendly and good-neighborly cooperative relations with the surrounding countries, including the Republic of Korea.

Li further pointed out that to further strengthen the friendly exchange and co-operation between China and the ROK and their militaries, and to constantly enrich the connotation of full co-operative partnership between the two countries are in the fundamental interests of the two countries, thus it is hoped that the two militaries should carry out multi-facet and multi-level exchanges in various fields so as to learn from each other and constantly enhance the friendship between them.

Li also briefed his guests on China's domestic situations.

Kim Wong Han said that the ROK appreciates China's important contribution to maintaining peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula. The ROK is willing to continue to promote exchanges and co-operation with the Chinese side in various fields, and constantly push forward the friendly cooperative relations between the two militaries.
