Li Jinai, member of the Central Military Commission and director of
the General Political Department of the PLA, met with Kim Wong Han,
commander of the defense security command of the armed forces of the
Republic of Korea (ROK) yesterday in Beijing.
Li said during the meeting that China and the ROK are close neighbors
facing each other across the sea, and the friendly exchanges between the
two countries dates back long in history. Since the establishment of
diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1992, there have been
frequent exchanges of visits and meetings between the leaders of the two
countries, along with daily increase of close contacts between the two
sides in political, economic and trade, cultural, scientific and
technological fields. In addition, the two sides also have effective
co-operation on the international and regional issues. It has been Chinese
government's unswerving stand to develop friendly and good-neighborly
cooperative relations with the surrounding countries, including the
Republic of Korea.
Li further pointed out that to further strengthen the friendly
exchange and co-operation between China and the ROK and their militaries,
and to constantly enrich the connotation of full co-operative partnership
between the two countries are in the fundamental interests of the two
countries, thus it is hoped that the two militaries should carry out
multi-facet and multi-level exchanges in various fields so as to learn
from each other and constantly enhance the friendship between them.
Li also briefed his guests on China's domestic situations.
Kim Wong Han said that the ROK appreciates China's important
contribution to maintaining peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula.
The ROK is willing to continue to promote exchanges and co-operation with
the Chinese side in various fields, and constantly push forward the
friendly cooperative relations between the two
militaries.
