Liang Guanglie, member of the Central Military Commission and chief of the
general staff of the PLA, held talks with Hans Helsoe, the visiting Danish chief
of defense on the afternoon of September 24 in Beijing.
Liang first expressed warm welcome to Hans Helsoe for his China visit. He
then said that the relationship between China and Demark has maintained a good
momentum of development in recent years featuring rapid growth in economic and
trade cooperation and steady deepening of exchange and cooperation in other
fields. The relation of the two militaries, as an important part of the
bilateral relationship between the two countries, has also witnessed new growth
in recent years. The PLA attaches importance to its friendly ties with the
Danish Armed Forces, and is willing to make joint efforts with its Danish
counterpart to push forward the friendly cooperative ties between the two
militaries on the basis of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit.
Liang also briefed his guests on China's views on the international
security situation, China's domestic situation, China's national defense policy
and the army building. Liang reiterated China's principled stand when he touched
on the Taiwan question.
Hans Helsoe expressed his agreement with China's views on the international
security situation, and his support to China's principled stand on the Taiwan
question. He also expressed his willingness to further strengthen exchange and
cooperation with the PLA so as to constantly promote the in-depth development of
the relations of between the two militaries.
