Liang Guanglie, member of the Central Military Commission and chief
of the general staff of the PLA, held talks with Hardly Macarley Lewin,
visiting chief of staff of the Jamaican Defense Force in Beijing
yesterday.
Liang Guanglie first expressed his warm welcome to
Lewin's visit to China. He said that Jamaica is an important country in
the Caribbean region, and the Chinese government attaches great importance
to developing its relations with Jamaica. The Chinese government is
satisfied with its current bilateral relations with Jamaica, and is
willing to work together with the Jamaican side to constantly add new
contents of cooperation to the "friendly partnership for common
development". He continued to say that the relations between the Chinese
and Jamaican armed forces have been developing smoothly over the past few
years, and the two sides have frank and friendly exchanges through
high-level visits and, in other sectors. China holds a positive altitude
towards further development of friendly cooperative relations between the
two militaries.
Liang Guanglie also briefed his guests on China's
national defense and the army building, and expounded the Chinese
government's principled stand on the Taiwan question.
Lewin said that Jamaica and China share similar or identical stand on
many international and regional issues. The friendly exchange and
co-operation between the two sides have a broad prospect. Jamaica is
willing to work along with the Chinese side to further develop the
cooperation between the two militaries.
