PLA Daily 2005-07-18 　　 　　Recently, Xu Caihou, member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee and vice chairman of the Central Military Commission, went to the Red Army Division of the Beijing Military Area Command for making firsthand investigation and research, during which he emphasized that the army must, guided by Deng Xiaoping Theory and the important thought of the "Three Represents", earnestly carry out the important instructions of Chairman Hu Jintao, and conscientiously strengthen and improve the ideological and political education and enhance its pertinence and effectiveness in light of the development of the times and the changes of the situation and missions. 　　During his investigation and research, Xu Caihou visited the Red Army Division and its subordinate units, where he held discussions with leaders of various units and their principal cadres, inspected their education facilities, attended lectures given by political cadres, participated in self-education activities of grassroots officers and men, and listened to the comments and suggestions directly from grassroots officers and men on how to strengthen and improve ideological and political education in the army. He also made on-site inspection of the education and training carried out by various troops and the work and life of the officers and men there.
