In early July, the PLA General Political Department hosted a 8-day
workshop on literary and artistic creation with military subject matters
in Beijing, at which over 80 literary and art workers from major
organizations of the army carried out in-depth discussions on several
major theoretical issues of the military literature and art, and some
literary and artistic works.
Li Jinai, member of the Central Military Commission and director of
the PLA General Political Department emphasized when he met with the
attendees of the workshop that, military literature and art, as an
important component of the socialist literature and art undertaking, plays
a pivotal role in developing the advanced culture, thus the military
literary and art workers should stand in the forefront in promoting the
advanced culture. Military literature and art, as an important component
of the political and ideological work of our army, plays a promoting and
inspirational role in the army building.
Li called on all literary and art workers of the army to go into the
thick of life so as to be familiarize themselves with the life in the
army, and set higher standard upon themselves to strive to create master
pieces, tours de force , even the works which would hand down from
generation to generation. He also stressed that efforts should be made to
attract and cultivate more literary and artistic talents, and the role of
the noted writers and artists should be given full play to let them teach
and impart their knowledge and skills to the young so as to bring about
the flourishing of military literature and art, and make new and greater
contributions to the development of socialist culture and spiritual
civilization.
