Liang Guonglie, member of Central Military Commission and chief of
general staff of the PLA, met with Faruk Comert, commandant of Turkish
Joint Military College and the delegation led by him yesterday in Beijing.
Liang first expressed his warm welcome to Faruk Comert and the
delegation led by him, he then recalled his visit to Turkey not long ago.
On the Sino-Turkish relations, Liang said that although the two countries
were far apart geographically, the relations between the two countries had
developed smoothly since the establishment of the diplomatic relations
between the two countries. In recent years, the friendly cooperation
between the two countries in various fields had been further strengthened.
China and Turkey also enjoyed broad consensus in many major international
issues, and had supported and cooperated with each other in international
affairs. China highly appreciated the support rendered to China by Turkey
on the Taiwan question, the human rights issue and other issues. Chinese
government and the army attached high importance to the relations with
Turkey and its armed forces, and was willing to further develop the
friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries and the two
militaries in various fields.
Faruk Comert said that there existed very friendly relations between
the Turkish Armed Forces and the PLA, and the past few years had witnessed
further development of cooperation between the two militaries in various
fields. The Turkish Armed Forces was willing to further its exchange and
cooperation with its Chinese counterpart, and his current visit was aimed
at enhancing the understanding and cooperation between the highest
military educational institutions of the two countries.
