General Liang Guanglie, member of the Central Military Commission and
chief of general staff of the PLA, and the delegation led by him, left
Bombay for Turkey on May 28 after wrapping up the 6-day visit to India.
Liang Guanglie arrived in New Delhi on May 23 on the invitation of
the Indian Armed Forces. During the visit, Liang met with Indian Vice
President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, Defense Minister Pranab Mukherjee and
National Security Advisor M. K. Narayanan. He also held talks respectively
with chiefs of staff of the army, the Air Force and the Navy of the Indian
Armed Forces, and exchanged views with them on issues of common concern
including the ties between the two counties, and contacts between the two
militaries. Both sides indicated during the talks that they would continue
to strengthen the exchange and cooperation between the two militaries and
further promote the development of friendly ties between the two
countries.
During the visit, Liang Guanglie watched the exercise
of the Indian airborne troops, visited Indian National Defense Academy,
the Western Headquarters of the Indian Navy and the Bombay Military
Subcommand. He also visited INS Vikrant, an Indian aircraft carrier museum
and Destroyer Bombay.
