The Chinese military delegation led by General Liang Guanglie, member
of the Central Military Commission and chief of general staff of the PLA
left Dahka for India on May 23, after wrapping up its visit to Bangladesh.
Liang Guanglie arrived in Dhaka on May 21 for a three-day visit
to Bangladesh at the invitation of the Bangladeshi Armed Forces. During
the visit, Prime Minister Khaleda Zia met with Liang Guanglie and his
delegation. In addition, Liang Guanglie also met with Lt. Gen. Hasan
Mashhud Chowdhury, chief of army staff of the Bangladeshi Army, Rear
Admiral Mohammad Hasan Ali Khan, chief of naval staff of the Bangladeshi
Navy and Air Vice Marshal Fakhnul Azam, chief of air staff of the
Bangladeshi Air Force, and other Bangladeshi military and government
leaders. The two sides exchanged views on national defense and army
building, and other issues of common concern including the ties between
the two countries and the two militaries. The Bangladeshi side indicated
that it would continue to stick to the one-China policy and support
China's efforts for national reunification, and would continue to make
efforts to consolidate and develop the friendly cooperative ties between
the two countries. To this, Liang Guanglie expressed his appreciation.
Liang also expressed the desire of the Chinese side to continue to
strengthen the exchange and cooperation between the two militaries.
During his visit, Liang Guanglie also laid a wreath at the grave of
unknown martyrs, visited the troops and watched the annual training
exercise of the Bangladeshi Armed Forces.
