　　While making an investigation and survey tour in the military units stationed in Zhanjiang and Xuzhou recently, Xu Caihou, member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the CPC and vice chairman of the Central Military Commission, stated emphatically that we must resolutely implement Chairman Hu Jintao's important instructions, carry forward and promote the spirit of being truth-seeking and pragmatic with greater efforts and energetically encourage the practice of being truth-seeking and pragmatic if we are to carry out well the historical missions of the army in the new century and new period, and further boost army building in an all-round way and the preparation for military struggles. We must be more resolute and put in a lot of efforts to ensure a big change in our style of work, and see to it that the requirements of being truth-seeking and pragmatic is epitomized in ever aspect of the ideological and political construction so as to make sure that the various missions are well carried out.

　　During his investigation and survey tour, Xu Caihou also participated in the activities of education on maintaining the advanced nature of the Party members of some of the Army, Navy and Air Force units stationed in Zhanjiang and Xuzhou to learn the situation of ideological and political building there. He also went down to grassroots companies, airfield and stations and training grounds, and boarded naval ships to discuss with the troops on how to put into effect the various tasks of ideological and political building.
