After listening to the reports on the ongoing educational activities of maintaining the advanced nature of the Party members by major military organizations stationed in Beijing, Xu Caihou, member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee and vice chairman of the Central Military Commission, stressed that the theme of studying and implementing the important thought of the “Three Represents” must be highlighted in the ongoing education activities in the light of the guiding thinking, general objective and guideline laid down by the CPC Central Committee and the Central Military Commission, and the leadership in the education activities should be strengthened so as to ensure the quality of the activities and the substantial results, and promote the education activities in the army to proceed in a deep-going way.

　　Xu Caihou pointed out that the final purpose of the ongoing education activities of maintaining the advanced nature of the Party members was to address the problems and give impetus to the work, and step up efforts to modernize the armed forces and promote preparations for the military struggle. The point of departure and goal of the education activities should be solving problems. Thus it is imperative to achieve new elevation in ideological understanding, new progress in solving outstanding problems, and new harvest in setting up a long-lasting mechanism for maintaining the advanced nature of the Party members. The mass line must be followed and opinions widely sought in the education activities. Outstanding problems existed in the Party organizations and Party members, outstanding problems in common practice of the troops, outstanding problems hindering the development of each unit, and outstanding problems affecting the vital interests of officers and men must be located. The Party members should carry out criticism and self-criticism with sincere attitude and strong Party spirit. Further efforts should be made to step up publicity and guidance so as to make fresh progress in maintaining the advanced nature of the Party members in the army.
