Li Jinai, member of the Central Military Commission and director of the
General Political Department of the PLA, yesterday urged the army to make
vigorous efforts with a strong sense of mission and responsibility to help the
poverty-stricken people to shake off poverty and become well
-off and make
contributions to the national development and prosperity of the people. Li
Jinani made the above-mentioned remarks when he received Lei Shengyun, deputy
director of the Leading Group Office for Participating in and Supporting the
Development of the Western Region under the Shaanxi Provincial Military Command,
who had just won 1st China Poverty Eradication Award.
Li Jinai first congratulated Lei Shengyun on his winning of the award. He
said that alleviating and shaking off poverty and eventually realizing common
prosperity of the people is the essential requirements of socialism and bounden
responsibility of the people’s army. In recent years, the army has actively
mobilized and organized officers and men, militia and the reserve force to adopt
various means to help the poor and needy to embark onto the road of prosperity
and regard it as one of its important political missions, and its action has won
wide recognition from the Party committees and governments at various levels as
well as from the broad masses of people. Li urged all the troops, especially
those stationed in the poor regions to continue to carry forward the glorious
tradition and fine style of the army and do a good job in helping the poor and
needy in line with the arrangements and requirements of the Fourth Plenum of the
16th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Enlarged Meeting
of the Central Military Commission.
