General Guo Boxiong, vice chairman of the Central Military
Commission, who was visiting the Republic of South Africa, held talks with
Mr. Mosiuoa Lekota, minister of national defense of South Africa on July
19 in Pretoria. The two sides vowed to further the friendly cooperative
ties between the two countries and the two armed forces.
Guo said that the past few years had witnessed swift and smooth
development of relations between China and South Africa with steady
exchange of high-level visits between the two militaries and constant
expanding of cooperation in various fields. Consultation mechanism has
also been established between the two national defense ministries. China
was willing to make joint efforts with the South African side to further
the friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries and the
two militaries.
Lekota said that since South Africa established diplomatic relations
with China, the relations between the two militaries had been developing
smoothly, and two sides had conducted fruitful exchanges and cooperation.
The South African side attached great importance to its friendly
cooperative ties with China and was willing to further the friendly
cooperation between the two militaries in various fields.
