On July 22, 2004, Liao Xilong, member of the Central Military
Commission and director of the PLA General Logistics Department, met with
a Thai military logistics delegation headed by VADM Apichart, chief of
Thai Supreme Commander Director for Logistics, and the two sides held a
conversation amid cordial and friendly atmosphere.
Liao Xilong first expressed warm welcome to VADM Apichart and the
delegation led by him. He then said that the relations between the Chinese
and Thai armed forces had been developing healthily and steadily, and
there had been a steady stream of high-level exchanges between the two
militaries. The Chinese side attached great importance to the friendly
relations between the logistics departments of the two armed forces and
was willing to learn and draw on successful experience from its Thai
counterpart in military logistics field. After briefing his guests on
building and reform of the PLA military logistics system, he pointed out
that through the current visit by the logistics delegation led by VADM
Apichart, the relations between the two militaries, especially between the
two logistics departments, would be closer, and the exchanges and
cooperation between the two militaries would be further strengthened.
VADM Apichart expressed his appreciation to the Chinese side for the
warm reception he and his delegation had received during their visit to
China. He said that there existed traditional friendship between the Thai
and Chinese peoples. The relations between the two militaries constitute
an important component of the relations between the two countries. He
believed that his current visit had provided a good opportunity for the
exchanges and cooperation between the two militaries in logistics field
and expressed the hope that the two sides would work together to promote
logistics building of their respective armed forces.
