With the approval of the Central Military Commission, the videophone
working conference on prevention and cure of the highly pathogenic bird
flu of the army was held on Feb. 5. Liao Xilong, member of the Central
Military Commission and director of the General Logistics Department of
the PLA, gave a speech at the event.
Liao Xilong said that the Central Military Commission was attaching
great importance to the prevention and cure of the highly pathogenic bird
flu and had approved to set up a headquarters for prevention and cure of
the virus in the entire army. All departments in the army should strive
for helping every member of the armed forces to learn as much as possible
about the general knowledge on prevention and cure of the highly
pathogenic bird flu. They should fully realize the great danger and severe
conditions of the disease and attach great importance to it. At the same
time, they should also know that the highly pathogenic avian flu could be
prevented and controlled so long as they know well how the highly
pathogenic bird flu spreads and how to prevent it, enhance self-protection
consciousness and improve self-protection ability. The army and the major
units and departments should establish expert consultation groups, so as
to enhance technological guidance regarding the prevention and cure of the
disease. They should also pool together the scientific and research
forces, give full play to their superiority in scientific research and
technology in terms of veterinary medicine, carry out scientific research
on how to prevent and cure the highly pathogenic bird flu virus
effectively and try their best to come up with new and relevant
achievements in preventing, diagnosing and curing the disease.
Liao Xilong pointed out that all departments in the army should also
strengthen leadership, cooperate with related departments actively, and
carry out strictly all preventative measures against this highly
pathogenic avian flu. Leaders at all levels should be in charge of the
preventative work against the disease by themselves and take the
responsibility for the entire work. They should enhance their contacts
with local departments and units, cooperate and help with each other
closely, and prevent and control the occurrence and spread of the disease
around the place where the troop stations.
