The Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center, which had just successfully
launched Probe No.2, the second satellite of a Sino-European joint space
probe program, has ushered in another day of jubilation—a meeting to
celebrate the awarding of the first-class merit citation by the Central
Military Commission to the launching test station of the center was held
here yesterday. At the meeting, a merit citation order signed by Jiang
Zemin, chairman of the Central Military Commission, was read out and Li
Jinai, member of the Central Military Commission and director of the
General Armaments Department of the PLA gave out awards to the launching
test station and delivered a speech.
Since its establishment in 1968, the launching test station of the
Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center has successfully completed more than 100
rocket or satellite launching missions. In recent years, the station has
made efforts in a pioneering and enterprising spirit focusing on enhancing
space flight launching capability. The station adopted advanced means such
as integrated networking test launching technology and remote control test
launching technology to ensure the smooth accomplishment of space flight
launching mission and made important contributions to the space flight
program and weaponry and military equipment modernization of the country.
