Motor regiment establishes modern vehicle maintenance center

PLA Daily 2004-08-27

Several days ago, reporters saw the following in a motor regiment of the Chengdu Military Area Command: NCO Li Yungang drove his truck into the vehicle automatic test station of the regiment. With the rapid transmission of various data on computers, the "health status" of his truck appeared on the computer screen in 15 minutes: chassis output power was subqualified, tail gas release surpassed the set standard and the truck got sideslip. Then, he drove the truck to the spacious maintenance workshop, the repairer turned on the computer and equipment to start "treatment" and the three malfunctions were removed only in 18 minutes.

The vehicles of the motor regiment run on the Sichuan-Tibet Highway all year round. Too much wear and tear of the machinery, and serious component worn out have made vehicle maintenance the bottleneck preventing the upgrading of the support capabilities of the unit. In April last year, relevant departments of the general headquarters/departments sent experts to the Sichuan-Tibet Highway to conduct study and investigation and decided to build a modern large-scale maintenance center with the regiment as the experimental unit. After the initiation of the project and under the guidance of the higher authorities, they introduced in over 30 machines such as vehicle malfunction testing line, motor comprehensive malfunction diagnosis instrument and supersonic parts cleaning equipment and built a modern maintenance center integrating vehicle equipment depot, comprehensive teaching building and vehicle maintenance workshop. As a result, the vehicle maintenance efficiency has been significantly improved.
