On the eve of the Army Day, general headquarters/departments of the PLA showed solicitude for retired veteran cadres and old comrades and extended festive greetings and best wishes to them in various forms.
The PLA General Staff Headquarters (GSH) held an "August 1st" tea party in honor of retired veteran cadres in Beijing on July 26, 2004, to mark the 77th anniversary of the Chinese People's Liberation Army. Liang Guanglie, member of the Central Military Commission and chief of general staff of the PLA, attended the tea party, at which he extended festive greetings and paid high respects to veteran cadres and old comrades on behalf of the Party committee, leaders and organs of the GSH.
The PLA General Political Department (GPD) held a cultural performance for retired veteran cadres in Beijing on July 29, in celebration of the 77th anniversary of the PLA. Over 1,000 veteran cadres of the GPD gathered happily together to watch the full-length opera "My Soaring Heart" performed by the Opera Troupe of the GPD. Before the performance, Sun Zhongtong, deputy director of the GPD, paid a call to veteran cadres and old comrades at corps formation level and above on behalf of Xu Caihou, member of the Central Military Commission and director of the GPD, as well as leaders and organs of the GPD. Sun Zhongtong extended festive greetings and cordial regards to veteran leaders and old comrades, and expressed appreciations for their concern and support to the work of the GPD.
The PLA General Logistics Department (GLD) held an "August 1st" tea party for retired veteran cadres on July 28 in commemoration of the 77th anniversary of the PLA. Liao Xilong, member of the Central Military Commission and director of the GLD, attended the party. Liao pointed out at the tea party that veteran cadres of the army were priceless assets of the Party, the country and the army, they had made immortal feats to the liberation of the country and national independence and important contributions to the modernization drive of the country and the army.
On the eve of the 77th anniversary of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, Chi Wanchun, political commissar of the PLA General Armaments Department (GAD) visited some retired veteran cadres living in Beijing on behalf of Li Jinai, member of the Central Military Commission and director of the GAD, and extended festive greetings and high respects to them.
