The PLA General Logistics Department recently issued a notice releasing the decision that the first economic census will be carried out throughout the armed forces from July 2004 to the end of 2006.
Cases involving the military or military units' participation in social economic activities and providing services and products to the society are important contents of the economic census of the country. The main purpose of conducting economic census throughout the armed forces is to fit in with the demands of the progress of national economy and social development, and to provide basis for the state to study and map out the plan for boosting national economy and social development. Meanwhile, it also aims at providing basis for decision-making by the Central Military Commission and the general headquarters/departments of the PLA in terms of strengthening military economic management and promoting the reform of the logistics support socialization.
