On July 6, affected by typhoon, a certain sea area in the East China Sea was enveloped in misty rain and a force 7 wind was blowing over the sea, stirring up huge waves. Amid the strong wind and huge waves, a naval task force was making rapid headway in the chopping sea. At the order of the task force commander, the coordinated attack exercise between warships and shipboard helicopters started. Deck crew swiftly released fastening steel rope, and the helicopter rotors quickly picked up the rotating speed. Soon the helicopters lifted up from the pitching ship deck amid thunderous noises and faded into the raining mist. This integrated exercise under complex weather conditions indicated that the drill of coordinated operation between warships and shipboard helicopters has been pushed to a higher level.
According to Li Yujie, chief of staff of the destroyer flotilla involved in this drill, it was the first time in the PLA Navy's history that the shipboard aircraft, as part of warship weaponry system, was attached to warship task force to participate in the integrated drill throughout the training.
