With the approval of the Central Military Commission, the General Office of the Central Military Commission recently forwarded the Proposals on Doing a Good Job in Military Agriculture and Sideline Production under the New Situation released by the General Logistics Department of the PLA. The Proposals urged all the military units to adopt vigorous measures to meet the requirements of army building in the new era and the agricultural development of the state, and maintain steady development of agriculture and sideline production of the army in order to serve better the purposes of providing subsidy for and strengthening the battle effectiveness of the army.
The Proposals pointed out that the agriculture and sideline production should be taken as a long term mission of enforcing the overall building of the army. In this field, units under brigade and regiment level should mainly stick to doing a good job in growing vegetables and raising livestock and poultry as well as their processing, promote the achievements of the "Vegetable Basket Program" so as to provide the officers and men with qualified vegetable and meat. The agriculture and sideline production bases should do well mainly in agriculture and sideline production such as grain, legumes and sideline products. Meanwhile, they should make good use of the available land resources so as to provide as much as possible subsidy for the army.
