In early June, a combined exercise involving various arms and services was conducted in an area in western part of Sichuan Province. The "Blue" army adopted several information dominance measures, trying to paralyze the command system of the "Red" army. At this critical moment, a communication regiment of the Chengdu Military Area Command ,which is entrusted with the task of providing signal support to fighting troops, adopted countermeasures timely to ensure the uninterrupted command of the "Red" army.
The leader of this regiment came to realize through practice that: in the future information-based warfare, the communication units should be able to counter enemy's information dominance operations, only thus can they be able to ensure smooth communication in war. In order to solve such problems as self-directing and self-rehearsal and lack of confrontation in its tactical training, the regiment established a tactical confrontational training mechanism. In summer and autumn every year, it would send the troops to mountain and forest or plateau areas to conduct confrontational training with real troops and full equipment in order to temper the troops' survivable capabilities in information-based warfare, the ability to meet emergencies and the ability to organize and command troops under complex terrain and all weather conditions in information-based warfare. Through practice, the regiment has solved over 10 hard-nut problems hindering the boosting of combat power of its troops and explored a number of new fighting methods.
